daffodils in my dining room

It rained all day today.

In between the showers

thunder

and lightning

I ventured outside

to cut daffodils

from the hillside

in the forest

behind our house.

I placed them

in an antique canning jar

filled with cool clean water.

I marveled

at their beauty.

I breathed in

their faint but sweet fragrance.

I closed my eyes

and smiled.
