Hand Embroidery Show and Tell

Hand embroidery. I love it! I make pieces....and then I kinda just keep 'em hanging around. I don't know what to do with them. But, I think I am going to start framing them in these wooden hoops and hang them on a wall....just a nice little collection all hanging together. I'm not sure which room in the house though. Maybe in the upstairs hallway.

All  the way....across the sky! It's so bright and vivid! It's full on! What does it mean?! What does it mean?! Remember the popular YouTube video Double Rainbow?  One of my all time favorite videos! That was the inspiration behind this piece. I wanted to embroider a rainbow....just one rainbow...hence "full on single rainbow."

Last year's summer vacation...Cape Cod. A truly nostalgic, beautiful, wonderful, salty dog place! I love it there! I wish I could move there. Twas my inspiration for this piece.

Sweet little birthday owl...I copied this from a book of iron on transfer designs for embroidery, painting or crafting. Why did I pick this design? Because it's an owl...and I like owls...and he's got a birthday hat on...and I like birthday parties. LOL! Seriously though, I love this big book of transfers. It is from my childhood! I traced so many patterns from it! My mom held onto it for all these years and recently gave it back to me. She keeps everything!! I'm so glad she kept this! This is the book.

Show and Tell, hand embroidery

* just wanted to show off my latest project *

I thoroughly enjoyed making this!
I have to confess . . . I traced the pie from an embroidery transfer book.
I think that it's fair to say . . embroidery is currently my favorite hobby!!
 Do any of you embroider??
If so, tell me what you've made!
I'd love to hear about it!!
Or you can email me a photo if you'd like!
I would love to see!!

Oh darlin' . . . I've been busy!

O H,   T O  F I N I S H   A N   O L D   P R O J E C T  !
It's sooooo gratifying !
This month I've been catching up on unfinished projects . . .
and Sassy was the first thing I completed !
Yes !
I've been working on him, Sasquatch, on and off, for the last 18 months.
Oh the shame of it.
But . . . sweet Sassy !
He's done . . . and I am loving him !
Your curious, aren't ya ?
You want to know if I believe in Sasquatch, don't ya ? ! !
Should I tell you ?
Hmmmm.
No, I don't believe there are Sasquatch out in them there woods.
It's  fun.
It's  folklore-y.
It's kinda  scarey.
It's  mysterious.
And . . .that's all it is for me . . .
that's why I like the legend !
It's just fun!
By the way, I love those "messin' with Sasquatch" commercials,
and that Finding Big Foot show.

N E X T   O N   M Y   L I S T   T O  F I N I S H . . .

was a sweet, little, chubby bunny !
I started this project last January !
Yes.
One year ago.
Sad but true.
She sat . . .
unstuffed . . .
no ears
no legs
and no arms . . .
for one year !
So rude . . . I'm so sorry sweet little chubby bunny !
Well, she is now complete . . . made from an old pair of corduroy pants.
She has been mailed out to my little 3 year old niece in Florida.
She now has a happy home  !

A N D . . . C U R R E N T L Y   I ' M   W O R K I N G   ON . . .
this awesome sail boat, children's quilt !

This one takes the prize for how long ago I started it ! !
Let's see . . .
I started this when my son Easton was 5 years old . . .
he's now 10 years old !
Yes, he's still a children . . . a child . . .
but, this won't quite cover a 10 year old boy.
His feet will stick out the bottom.
His head will stick out the top . . .{ that's a good thing ! }
However, he is still excited to see me working on it.
He says he can't wait to sleep with it.
He can definitely cuddle with it.
Heck, I've even curled in a ball and covered with it whilst napping on the couch.
I pieced this quilt on the sewing machine . . .
and I am hand quilting.
I have machine quilted before, but I have found, that over time . . .
the stitches have pulled snapped and broke.
Very sad.
The quilts I have hand quilted, have withstood the test of time . . .
and even the washing machine !
However, I am not a professional machine quilter by any means . . .
so, I am not knocking machine quilting.
I'm just knocking MY machine quilting !

Teeny Tiny Doll House Embroidery

How do you like this teeny tiny embroidery piece? My mom made this years ago for her dollhouse.  My mom has made many dollhouse miniatures over the years. So very adorable! The embroidery hoop is made from a small coil from a key chain, and the needle is made from a straight pin with the ball removed from the top. As you can see, there are a couple of rust stains on the fabric. I'm not quite sure how old this is. She probably made it at least 20 years ago. My mom has so many talents it's not even funny. You wanna talk about creative...she's probably one of the most creative people I know.

Sasquatch's flowers

I have been an embroidering fool these past few days and I am loving every minute of it!

I started this Sasquatch embroidery piece many months ago...maybe even a year ago...I don't even remember now. I have lately been in the mood to go back and finish little lonely projects that have been left for the dust bunnies! I have pulled old Sassy {aka Sasquatch} off the craft table...or should I say, out from under a heap of scrapbook paper...and picked up the needle and embroidery thread once again.

I know the basic embroidery stitches but, have been also learning some new ones. I am very excited as the new stitches are turning out very well.

Take a gander at what I've been working on.

What you see in the photo above is called "turkey work"...{the fuzzy part of the flower}. It's a series of many, many big loops that stand straight up. You then cut the loops, trim it to the height you like. Run your needle over the cut thread a few times and it fluffs up wonderfully. I wanted to create a dandelion and thought this to be a fantastic stitch to use. This was my first time at turkey work and I loved it. For the outer part of the flower, I used lazy daisy stitches. This was my first for that stitch as well.

In the photo above: This precious little flower...well, I don't quite know what it is, but I have seen something very similar in the grass. We used to pull the pink top part off when we were kids and they would fall apart into tiny little balls. {probably just a flowering grass} I used french knots for the pink part of the flower and am quite smitten with the results!!

And here is Sassy's name, all pimp-like, in gold metallic floss. That floss was a bit tricky to work with. I was surprised, I didn't realize that it had a tendency to untwist into a few very, very thin threads. Oh ya, and it knotted very easy while pulling through the fabric. I love the look of this metallic floss though...it's just one of those "slow and steady" things.

Well, that's all I'm going to show you for now. I will keep you updated on Sassy!
