stick pencils and Shaker Woods

Show and Tell!
Just wanted to show off my new treasure
that I lah-uvvv! love}
These very rustic, naturey pencils.
When I write with them, I feel like a woodland gnome!

Wouldn't a woodland gnome write with a stick pencil?
I thinking yes!

Acquired these lovelies at a craft festival in the woods.
A craft festival to end all craft festivals!
Shaker Woods in Columbiana, Ohio.
The kind of festival where a man strolls the paths strumming on a bango.
Where hand-built miniature houses pose as stores where artists sell their creations.

Clog dancers tap, tap, tapping...and pound, pound, pounding on a wooden stage.
Smokey BBQ pork, roasting...scenting the air all around.
Artists dressed up, all old fashionedy-like.
Shade, glorious shade...under massive oaks...sunlight filtering through the leaves.
Freshly cut, fried potato chips, all salted up nicely.
Pottery, wooden dolls, hand carved spoons, natural soaps and herbs
Canned jellies, salsas, mustards, and butters.

I want to go again!

  3. sounds like such a fun time. We have a festival like there in Cincinnati, but it's in a park, not all cool out in the woods like that, and I love those little houses.

  4. I want to go too! I've seen these pencils before, but I can't for the life of me figure out how they get the lead in there.

  5. I wish I had been with you. Sounds like an awesome day. I used to have one of those pencils when I was a kid. Never figured out how it was made, but loved writing with it.

  8. Very fun pencils... my lists might be extra long if I were able to write with one of those:)

Are those structures permanent or does the whole village pack up?

    Looks like loads of fun!

  9. I remember going to the Shaker Woods festival back in 1992. I still crave their doorstep thick bread covered in apple butter and yet I am unable to find a recipe to recreate the whole taste experience. Reminded me of Robin Hood and how I imagine the forest he and his merry men lived in :-) Happy days.
