daffodils in my dining room

It rained all day today.

In between the showers

thunder

and lightning

I ventured outside

to cut daffodils

from the hillside

in the forest

behind our house.

I placed them

in an antique canning jar

filled with cool clean water.

I marveled

at their beauty.

I breathed in

their faint but sweet fragrance.

I closed my eyes

and smiled.

  1. Wow! Reminds me of my favorite William Carlos William's poem the Red Wheelbarrow! Simple and yet I'm right there with you. Especially like the antique canning jar detail. I will be copying your poem into my garden journal.

On the mason bees they are free ranging. I don't seem to have as many here as I did at our old house. A good source of information is the National Wildlife Federation:

    Good luck!

  2. Pretty!

Now see if I was to put flowers in mason jar they would look tacky, lopsided or just plain weird. Yours is BEAUTIFUL. It could even be an awesome postcard or picture to hang.

  4. Love it!! I went out and picked lilacs last night to bouquet on my table. This morning I caught my 3 year old removing a stem from the vase. .she looked a little guilty as she thrust it toward me and said. .Look I picked a flower for you!! HA! Enjoy the signs of spring!
